We’re proud to share that our five-star resort has been included in a prestigious list of the best hotels in the world.

La Liste included Rockliffe Hall in their 2025 list of the best 1,000 hotels across the world - joining big names like The Savoy and Claridges in London.

The list, which was launched in Paris in 2015, is a prestigious selection of the world’s best restaurants and luxury hotels and is published every year.  Powered by a unique algorithm that combines scores from hundreds of guidebooks, trusted media outlets, and online guest reviews, La Liste offers a true global consensus on luxury and quality.

Philippe Faure, President and Founder of La Liste, said: “Our algorithm doesn’t lie. These establishments truly represent the pinnacle of global hospitality. Each transcends the simple concept of accommodation to offer a transformative experience to its guests.”

Overall, Rockliffe Hall was awarded a score of 94 per cent.

This ranking is a timely milestone, as earlier this year we began a multimillion-pound refurbishment of the historic Grade II listed Old Hall. Plans include upgrading upper-floor guest rooms, introducing a new staircase, and creating seamless connections between the cocktail bar, drawing room, and terrace.

The Orangery and its kitchen will be transformed into the main resort restaurant, further elevating Rockliffe Hall’s culinary offerings with every detail thoughtfully designed to elevate the experience without losing what makes Rockliffe feel like home.

And then there’s the food. Culinary Director James Close, known for his award-winning approach, is spearheading an exciting new chapter in dining at Rockliffe. His ambition is simple, to create a restaurant that feels right at home in the North East, but would be recognised anywhere in the world.

Complementing the Old Hall's refurbishment, work is now underway to develop a new pavilion on the East Lawn that will house a world-class flagship restaurant. This modern space, inspired by colonnaded architecture, will feature an open kitchen designed to foster interaction between guests and chefs, offering an immersive dining experience.

General Manager Shauna Robb said: “These developments reflect our commitment to keeping Rockliffe Hall at the forefront of luxury hospitality. But they also create new opportunities for the region, bringing new jobs, talent and enhanced tourism. It’s about investing in our people as much as our place.”

She continued: “This recognition from La Liste is something we’re incredibly proud of and comes at a pivotal point in the journey. Our aim with the refurbishment and developments is to put Rockliffe, and the North of England, on the map and we are excited for what the future holds.”
